💡 Thumbnail text has to be readable on a small screen, so go large with an outline for contrast against the background. A background image is auto-fitted to fill (cover), and "Darken" helps the text stand out. YouTube's standard size is 1280×720.

What is the Thumbnail & Banner Maker?

A thumbnail and banner maker for YouTube videos, Instagram posts, and blog articles, right in your browser. Pick a standard size for your platform, set a background and text, and you have a click-worthy thumbnail. Everything you need is in one tool. Choose sizes like YouTube 1280×720, Instagram square and story, Facebook/OG 1200×630, blog, or Twitter header — or enter your own. Backgrounds can be a solid color, a two-color gradient, or your own image scaled to fill, with a "Darken" control to keep text readable over photos. Add a title and subtitle and set the size, color, position, and outline so it stays crisp even at small sizes. Everything is processed in your browser, so your images are never uploaded. Save the finished thumbnail as PNG or JPG. Free, with no installation or signup.

How to use

 1. Pick a size (YouTube, Instagram, blog, etc., or enter your own).
 2. Choose a solid, gradient, or image background and set the colors or image.

 4. Check the preview, then save as PNG or JPG.

How this tool is used in real work, and what to watch out for.

What makes a thumbnail get clicked

Thumbnails are usually seen at a tiny size, so above all the text must be big and clear. Keep the title short (key words only), size it around 10% of the height, and give it a color that contrasts with the background plus an outline so it reads on any background.

Contrast matters too: dark text on light backgrounds, light text on dark ones. For a photo background, use "Darken" to push it back so the text pops. Too many colors get busy — two background colors plus one text color is a good limit.

 • Keep titles to a handful of words — long ones wrap and shrink.
 • An outline width of 6–10 clearly separates text from the background.
 • Use the subtitle for secondary info, clearly smaller than the title.
Common sizes: YouTube 1280×720, Instagram square 1080×1080, story/reel 1080×1920, Facebook/OG 1200×630. Set the size first, then size the text to fit.

Using the three background types

Solid is cleanest and keeps text readable — good for informational content. Gradient blends two colors so it isn't flat, and you can change the direction for a different feel. Image puts your title over a photo — great for vlogs, reviews, and travel.

An image background is auto-scaled to fill (cover) the size, so any aspect ratio fills without gaps. If text gets lost in the photo, raise "Darken". Everything runs in your browser, so the photo never leaves your device.

Frequently asked questions

What size is a YouTube thumbnail?

The YouTube standard is 1280×720 (16:9). It's the default here, and you can also pick Instagram, blog, Facebook, and other sizes.

My text blends into the background.

Increase the outline width to separate the text from the background. If the background is an image, raise "Darken" so light text stands out.

Can I use my own photo as the background?

Yes. Set the background to "Image" and add a photo — it's scaled to fill (cover) the size. Photos are never uploaded.

Is the finished thumbnail stored on a server?

No. All work happens in your browser and images are never sent to or stored on a server.
